About Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force is the air arm of the Indian armed forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the airforces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.

Airmen receive a decent salary and other benefits along with the due promotion during their service. Airmen receive many benefits like accommodation, ration, medical facilities for self and dependents, LTC for self and family, loans for education, interest-free loans for house repair or marriage of sister/daughter, scholarships for children etc.

Employees in Group X and Y are called PBOR (Person below Officer Rank) or Airmen. Airmen in Group X will work in the technical fields subject to their trade while Airmen in Group Y will work in another stream other than technical.

In the technical trades of Group X, the posts are Airframe Fitter, Propulsion Fitter, Weapon Fitter, Electrical Fitter, Electronic Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Automobile Fitter and Workshop Fitter.

On the other hand, in the non-technical trades of Group Y, the posts are Accounts Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Logistics Assistant, Operation Assistant, Medical Assistant, IAF Police & Security, Ground Training Instructor, Environmental Support Services Assistant, Meteorological Assistant, Musician and Cryptographer.

Salary of Airmen in Group X and Y

When IAF selects the Airmen in Group X and Y then they are subjected to training. During the training, the Airmen in both the groups are given a stipend of Rs. 14,600. Once, the training is over, the Airmen in Group X are given Rs.33,100 per month. The Dearness Allowance is given as applicable. The Airmen in Group Y are given Rs.26,900 per month. The Dearness Allowance is given as applicable. The salary rises in subsequent years. The Dearness Allowance is calculated on the sum total of Pay Band + Grade Pay + MSP. Military Service Pay (MSP) is given to all the Airmen on a per month basis.

After retirement, the Airmen are entitled to the pension, medical insurance and gratuity, apart from canteen facilities. Besides this, the Air Force allows relaxation in age and reservation in government services as an ex-serviceman.
